TRAFFIC ALERTS Please be advised that road work along your beach travels may cause delays, or lane closures. Also, be aware of new pedestrian crossings. Expect slower traffic.
Traffic Alerts and Info: Memorial Day through Labor Day avoid travel on mid mornings or early afternoons on Saturdays as this is "Moving In Day" for weekly renters, and traffic is usually very heavy. If you must travel on Saturday, be in the downtown parking areas by 9:00am. Avoid leaving Rehoboth Beach late Sunday afternoons, as well as early Monday mornings. On rainy days, Route 1 is very congested due to outlet shoppers. Be sure to exercise caution and patience during your travels on Route 1 as there are many last minute lane changes and turns made. DMV on the Go to serve three Sussex County locations The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles announced the DMV on the Go trailer season will begin Monday, April 1, and continue through Tuesday, Oct. 1. This season’s schedule will differ slightly from last year. Instead of appearing in Wilmington on Tuesdays, the trailer will head south to the Milton CHEER Center. The Georgetown DMV is becoming the busiest DMV location in the state, and having DMV on the Go in three Sussex locations will help better serve DMV customers. “Mobility is one of DMV on the Go’s greatest assets,” said Nicole Majeski, Delaware Department of Transportation secretary. “It allows us to adjust our location based on usage and performance, ensuring we are serving our customers to the best of our abilities.” The DMV on the Go trailer, featuring four fully functional workstations, is ADA-accessible. It comes complete with an awning for bad weather and a wheelchair lift, and it performs all the same transactions as a traditional DMV except for inspections and road exams. Customers in need of uninsured motorist or in-person driver improvement assistance still need to visit a Georgetown, Dover, Delaware City or Wilmington DMV location. Last year, the DMV on the Go trailer assisted more than 1,600 customers by allowing them to renew their registrations and driver licenses, complete title work and more right in their neighborhood. DMV on the Go will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays, at DART’s Lewes Transit Center, 17616 Coastal Highway, Lewes. Milton CHEER Center will host DMV on the Go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays, at 24855 Broadkill Road, Milton. DMV on the Go will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays, at Big Lots Plaza, 820 Norman Eskridge Highway, Seaford. For the full DMV on the Go schedule, go to dmv.de.gov. To access other DMV services, customers can complete more than 20 transactions online at mydmv.delaware.gov including Delaware driver license, identification and vehicle registration renewals, duplicates, and address changes. |

Lighthouse sunset cruise reservations open The Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation has two sunset cruises scheduled for summer 2024. Early reservations are recommended for the events at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 8, and 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7. Boats cruise from Anglers Fishing Center in Lewes along the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, across Roosevelt Inlet, and into the Harbor of Refuge to see the Delaware Breakwater East End Light and Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse. On these sunset cruises, participants do not enter the lighthouses, but the boat floats alongside each for some great views and photos. Dolphins are often swimming, although it can’t be guaranteed these majestic mammals will make an appearance. However, the lighthouse at sunset is a highlight of the summer. This relaxing and fun event is BYOB and snacks. Tickets are $40 per guest. Money raised from the cruises funds ongoing maintenance of the lighthouses. For more information, go to delawarebaylights.org or call 302-644-7046. |

DHS releases African American history resource guide for research The Delaware Historical Society announced the release of a new tool to direct researchers, teachers and interested parties toward resources surrounding African American history in the state and region. The research guide is meant to provide access to materials related to African American history held at the Delaware Historical Society. It provides collection-level descriptions from the manuscript, photograph and periodical collections, and various African American genealogical resources for Delaware families. Delaware Historical Society Executive Director Ivan Henderson said, “[It is] a sorely needed resource which should invite new learners to locate and explore some of the mostrequested items in DHS’s collections.” Chief Curator Leigh Rifenburg said this is an important addition to DHS’s existing research tools, making it easier than ever for new audiences to discover and access resources essential to understanding the African American experience in Delaware. The resource guide is free to download on the society’s website at dehistory.org/dhs-africanamerican- resource-guide. The scope of materials ranges from the 17th century to the present day, covering topics including slavery and the Civil War, school desegregation, the Civil Rights Movement, and African American social, religious and political life in Delaware. The guide will be updated as the society acquires new collections from across the state and can be used alongside its existing online catalogs and digital collections site. |

March 8, 2022 “These national recognitions from the Arbor Day Foundation are perennial in Rehoboth Beach, but that doesn’t mean that we take them – or our trees – for granted,” said Arborist Liz Lingo in a prepared statement. “The city’s commitment to tree canopy preservation, maintenance and planting are critical to safeguarding Rehoboth’s wooded seaside character, which is so highly valued by our residents and visitors.” Rehoboth is one of 3,600 communities across the country that qualify for Tree City USA designation by meeting four program requirements: having a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. The Growth Award recognizes communities that demonstrate year-over-year increasing levels of tree care and community engagement. |
